Being let into someone's home is a responsibility we take seriously. Every lockout starts with a polite check that you belong there, every rekey ends with the old pins handed back, and every job is done as if our own family lived behind that door.

From the shop

Hardware chosen for winter, fitted with care.

Access control does not have to mean a server room. For a small office or a clinic it can be a single keypad on the staff door and a fob reader at the front, with a schedule that locks everything at seven. We size the system to the building, wire it neatly, leave a mechanical key override, and train whoever will be adding and removing users.

Every kind of lock, one call

A lock is a small part with a big job, and the same is true of the work around it. Whether you need a door opened, a new key made or a whole building put on one system, the pages below explain what each service involves and when it makes sense.

Lockouts

Lockout Services

An after-hours lockout is different from a planned visit, so we treat it differently. Fewer questions about upgrades, more attention to getting you inside, checking the lock still works and leaving you with something that locks properly behind you.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

A knob lock alone is a latch, not a lock. Adding a proper deadbolt is the single most useful upgrade on most houses, and the residential pages explain how we choose one, install it into the door and frame, and match it to your existing keys.

  1. A silver-colored deadbolt set in clear packaging with two keys resting on the countertop in front. — Lock Rekeying, Caledon
Lock RekeyingThree months of renovation are finally done. The kitchen looks wonderful, and along the way a general contractor, a tile installer, a plumber and an electrician each carried a key to your front door at one point or…
  2. Person holding a silver-colored lock beside an open wooden door with exposed circular holes and a latch at its edge. — Deadbolt Installation, Caledon
Deadbolt InstallationYou bought a keypad deadbolt online and pulled the old one off, only to find the hole in the door is a different size and the bolt latch sits at a backset the new kit does not list. The door is now open and the box is…
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Caledon
Lock Replacement & UpgradeThe brass handleset has gone blotchy and green where the winter salt reaches it, and the coating on the deadbolt is lifting in flakes. It still locks, but it looks tired beside the fresh paint on the door.
  4. Person holding a long door handle and rectangular lock case beside an open wooden door with exposed hardware recesses. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Caledon
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceSomeone painted the door years ago without removing the hardware. The faceplate, the strike and the little thumb-turn are all under several coats, the deadbolt scrapes when it moves, and the knob is stiff enough to…
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Caledon
Smart Lock InstallationThe kids get home before you do and the spare key has been lost twice this school year. A keypad they can tap, plus a message to your phone when the door opens, would take a daily worry off the list.
  6. Pale blue garden gate with a black lever latch between light stone pillars. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Caledon
Gate & Building Entry LocksA visitor buzzes from the panel downstairs, someone presses the button by the door, and nothing happens. The electric strike on the lobby door used to click open on cue; now it stays silent, and residents are propping…
  7. Detached threaded cam lock and mounting washer on a workbench in front of closed mail compartments. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Caledon
Mailbox Lock ReplacementYou've just moved in, and the mailbox compartment in the lobby came with a single key the previous owner mailed back separately, or never handed over at all. As far as anyone can tell, the lock still answers to a…

Commercial

Commercial Locks

For landlords of commercial units, turnover means locks. We rekey between tenants, set up master systems that let the building manager reach every unit, and replace hardware that a decade of tenants has worn out.

Commercial Rekeying

The renovation is finished and the contractors have gone, along with the loaner keys they used for six weeks. Trades, delivery drivers and an inspector all came through, and the front door still answers to the key that was passed around the site.

Which fix fits?

The kids keep losing house keys. The usual fix

UsuallyA keypad lock on the door they use.

WhyA code cannot be left at school; the mechanical key stays as backup and codes change whenever you like.

An older parent lives alone and you worry about getting in.The usual fix

UsuallyA lockbox with a key, or a keypad lock with your own code.

WhyEither lets family or a caregiver in when needed, on your terms.

You host paying guests and hand over keys each week. The usual fix

UsuallyA keypad lock with rotating guest codes.

WhyEach guest gets a code that expires at checkout; nothing needs collecting and nothing can be copied.

Another employee left and the keys never came back. The usual fix

UsuallyAccess Control Installation

WhyAccess control installation swaps a shared metal key for an electronic one: a card, a fob, a code, or a phone tap that a controller checks against a list the business manages.

After the fit-out, the gym floor now holds more people than the old office space ever did, and the exit door at the back still has the same turn-lock it had…The usual fix

UsuallyPanic & Exit Hardware

WhyWhich device goes on a door depends on what the door already is.

At closing time the hookbolt on the storefront door catches the keeper only on the second or third try, and one employee has started giving the door a shoulder…The usual fix

UsuallyCommercial-Grade Lock Replacement

WhyWhere a home lockout is mostly about getting one door open again, a commercial lock replacement is mostly a decision about a system: how this one door's hardware fits into every other lock the business already manages.

How a visit goes

When people say upgrade they usually mean a heavier lock, and there is a real scale behind that word. Builders hardware in North America is graded to ANSI/BHMA standards, with Grade 1 the highest and Grade 3 the lightest, and residential products carry a separate label scoring security, durability…

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Making the door safe first

The priority is a door that closes and locks tonight. We assess the frame, the strike and the lock, and secure whatever was forced so you can stop worrying about the opening.

  2. 2 of 3

    Sorting permanent from temporary

Some damage needs a proper repair later; some can be fixed on the spot. We separate the two clearly and explain what a lasting fix involves without pushing you into it.

  3. 3 of 3

    Rekeying or replacing

If keys were taken or the lock was compromised, we rekey or replace before leaving. You end the visit with a door that locks and keys that only you hold.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 30%Newer homes

About 30% of homes in Caledon were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In newer developments the hardware is often the same finish and style from house to house. A locksmith can offer upgrades that match what is already there, so a stronger cylinder or a new lever set fits in without looking like an afterthought.

  • 81%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 81% of homes in Caledon (2021 Census).

Where most homes are detached houses, each one has several exterior doors: front, side, back, garage entry, sometimes a walkout. Getting them all onto one key is the most requested job, and it usually takes a single visit.

Things people wonder about

(289) 906-0056

Can the same visit replace locks on more than one door, or does each door need its own appointment?

One visit usually covers every door on the job. The locksmith brings a range of cylinders and strikes, measures each door's backset and bore, and works through the list in order, front entrance first if a key change matters most there. Having a rough list ready, which doors, and whether they should end up on one key or several, lets the locksmith plan hardware before arriving rather than working it out door by door on site.

What happens to the old lock?

It is yours. Some people keep a sound old cylinder as a spare or move a decent deadbolt to a shed or garage door, and the locksmith can rekey it to the house key for that purpose. Worn or damaged hardware is taken away for recycling if you prefer. Either way, the old keys should be gathered up and discarded so nobody confuses them with the new set.

My door has glass beside it. Should I fit a deadbolt keyed on both sides?

A keyed interior cylinder means finding a key to get out, which is not what you want on a door people use every day. The steadier answer for a door with glass is a single-cylinder deadbolt with a thumb-turn, combined with a reinforced strike, a longer bolt and a security film or laminated glass in the sidelight.

How do I order extra keys later?

An authorised person contacts the locksmith who holds your system, quotes the system reference, and the key is cut from code and numbered into the register. Some systems use a physical authorisation card, others an online validation, and business systems often require a signature that matches one on file. The key is collected or delivered, and the record shows the new total. It is deliberately not something a stranger with your key can do.
